HAPKIDO GREECE - HOME PAGE

The spirit and skill of competition is the foundation of our successful daily lives in society in which we are often confronted with aggressors.

Thus we see the origin of martial art is to cope with these situations.

The essence of a martial art is competition.

Since any martial art is a means of self-defence against an aggressor and further, a defence against injustice, the competition of martial art should thus be accompanied with spiritual refinement and a sense of patience.

Τhe Philosophy of Hapkido

  • Righteousness (Jong Euye)
  • Courtesy (Yea Euye)
  • Patience (len Nae)

"... I cannot keep others from teaching Hapkido,
but I can give them guidelines for teaching it the right way,
the true way,
the way it was meant to be..."

Grand Master Kwang Sik Myung

TWO YEARS WITHOUT OUR TEACHER

It's been two years without our teacher, Kwang-Sik Myung. Kwang-Sik Myung was am...ong the founders of the art of Hapkido, first in Korea and then in the U.S.A. He established the first international Hapkido organization, the World Hapkido Federation and he wrote some of the best books on Hapkido.

Kwang-Sik Myung was a great teacher; the kind of teacher that is always standing by his students, willing to teach his art, to lead, to inspire, to assist them in becoming better. All of us, who were fortunate to know him closely, would agree that he was characterized by ethos, solemnity, the measure of words and acts. Although he was a leader in his field and an internationally known teacher, he was always approachable, courteous, generous and modest.

I am grateful that I have been his student and I have learned so much from him. Our memories of him remain forever etched in our hearts and we try to continue his work. I'm sure that from somewhere up in heaven, Kwang-Sik Myung smiles with joy and contentment.
